The DATA Network and Trace are joining the Sui stack, bringing a live supply of rights-cleared AI training data to infrastructure built for AI workloads.

The DATA Network joins Sui and Walrus.

What’s Changing

In the coming months:
  • The DATA Network will be upgraded to run as a protocol natively on Sui. Its independent layer 1 chain will be retired once the upgrade is complete.
  • Walrus becomes the default storage layer for DATA Foundation apps.
  • $DATA remains the token of the DATA protocol, carried over one-to-one, with holder economics and governance rights at least equivalent to today’s.
A detailed timeline and transition plan will be published before the upgrade. Until then, the existing DATA Network keeps running as normal. Its documentation lives under the Legacy Network tab.

Why Sui

Trace is growing into the data layer for AI, end to end. Sui already has many of the components it needs:

Storage

Walrus: decentralized storage for the underlying data.

Access control

Seal: dynamic, programmable access control.

Verifiable compute

Nautilus: verifiable off-chain compute, like inference in TEEs.
With sourcing, access control, processing, and inference all on the same stack, Trace’s audit layer can prove and verify every step. That gives more depth and weight to the metadata Trace stores, and makes Trace a source of truth for AI data.

Trace Today

Trace has registered 250M+ contributions since launch and processes over 3M receipts per day. Through Trace, AI labs can source real-world data with verifiable provenance, while Walrus provides the underlying storage layer.
